(Conférence des Eglises de la Caraïbe) "In 1971 Caribbean Church leaders came together to address the
problems of poverty, underdevelopment, unemployment and the causes of social unrest in the
region. The result was the birth of the Caribbean Conference of Churches (CCC) two years
later in 1973. The mandate given to the organisation was "the promotion of ecumenism
and social change in obedience to Jesus Christ and in solidarity with the poor." The
CCC is the regional ecumenical body of the Caribbean. It is an independent, non-profit,
non-governmental organisation and is one of the vanguard development agencies in the
region. It is an affiliate of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and is associated with
numerous regional and international organisations including the Ecumenical Coalition on
Third World Tourism (ECTWT), the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) and the West
Indian Commission. The CCC has a membership of thirty-four (35) different Christian
denominations and works in thirty-two (32) English, French, Dutch and Spanish speaking
countries in the Pan-Caribbean region." [from the website]
