The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is being held from January 18-25, 2009 in various Christian churches around the town. Everyone is invited to join in the daily prayer sessions and bible study, followed by a light lunch.

If you are near CFB Petawawa during the Week of Prayer, drop by St. George's Protestant Chapel. The Protestant Chaplain, Don Wright reports that they are hosting events through the Week, and are hoping to have a pulpit exchange with St. Francis of Assisi RC Chapel.
In Saskatoon we meet all over the city: both Sundays in the afternoon, each weekday morning for worship followed by breakfast, a noon service with lunch, and four evenings. Everyone is welcome at all services. Invite a neighbour and come! At some of the services, an offering will be collected for expenses or to support continued ecumenical ministry in Saskatoon. Please be generous. Cheques should be made out to the "Prairie Centre for Ecumenism." All donations are tax-deductible.
Those planning the morning services, Monday to Friday, are encouraged to reflect the worship tradition of the host community. They offer an opportunity to learn a little about the diversity of the christian community in Saskatoon.

Scripturefest will be an occasion for reflection and dialogue about the scripture readings set for the 2009 Week of Prayer, "That They May Become One in Your Hand" (Ez. 37:17). The annual WPCU theme materials contain an 8 day series of biblical reflections on the annual theme. These will form the basis for an ecumenical reflection led by Rev. David Jobling & Rev. Bill Richards. Together we will celebrate scripture as sacred and living story, sustaining us in our journey of "faith seeking understanding" and calling us forth as Christians seeking reconciliation and unity.

Friday 4:30 pm to Saturday 5:00 pm. The Newman Centre at the University of Saskatchewan will be hosting a retreat in the style of Taizé at St. Peter's Abbey in Muenster. Taizé is an ecumenical monastery in France that is known for its distinctive musical tradition and its enormous outreach to young adults. The retreat will be led by Marie-Louise Ternier-Gommers. She spent considerable time in Taizé as a young adult before she immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands. Today, Marie-Louise is married to Jim and is mother of three adult children. Marie-Louise is an accomplished author and editor, preacher and retreat facilitator. She currently works as Publications Editor for a religious order and in pastoral ministry at St. Augustine’s RC Parish in Humboldt. The music emphasizes simple phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or other extracts from the Scriptures, and these are repeated and sometimes also sung in canon.
